My ongoing sharing about prayer with a dear friend has reinforced my belief that all people are connected.
As well, my recent viewing of 'Our Planet' and 'Life in Color' on Netflix further confirmed for me that the entire animal kingdom is interrelated as well.
So I wasn't at all surprised when I heard a recent interview with the author of the book, Finding the Mother Tree, who claims that trees have an incredible way of interacting with each other.
In her new book, Suzanne Simard explains that trees communicate using an underground fungal network that's held together by a mother tree, a matriarch of sorts, that nurtures and connects them all. Her argument is detailed alongside a personal memoir, with her story and that of the forest tightly interwoven.
Her discoveries have prompted Hollywood's Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal to team up to do an adaptation of her book for the big screen.
Simard ends the introduction to her book writing,
"This is not a book about how we can save the trees. This is a book about how the trees might save us."
A most fascinating read.
And yes, as our indigenous peoples have always known, I have come to the understanding that everything and everybody is connected on this planet of ours.
