I was delighted to receive this note from Fran Carron, sister of the late Jacques Carron, a beloved teacher at Brebeuf College for many years. Fran and I have kept up our relationship since Jacques passing in 2012 with friendly notes and a few visits. For those who knew Jacques, I'm sure you will enjoy Fran's sharing.
I always looked up to my big brother Jacques. In every way, with his humor and mischievousness, he was at the heart of our family of 12 children. At Christmas time as kids growing up on the farm, it was always Midnight Mass followed by opening our gifts of clothes, board games and of course our stockings filled with candies and an orange.Next, it was Reveillon, our wonderful Christmas dinner complete with turkey with dad's stuffing, turkey sliders and of course, tourtiere. The meal was topped off with Christmas cakes, pies and cookies. Then it was family fun with games like crokinole, cards and the aggravation marble game until the wee hours of the morning. We had such fun.Later, when Jacques was working at Brebeuf in Toronto, he would return home to Pain Court near Chatham, a little before Christmas, with a few bottles of wine and gifts to herald the beginning of our celebrations.I still miss him dearly.
