GO JAYS GO

My river rock friend Rob doesn’t read my blog…says it’s too heavy for him. Paradoxically, he’d rather follow the misadventures of the Titanic Maple Leafs or the fumbles of the Toronto Argonauts.

Well, today’s blog is a good news entry that I know even Rob would appreciate.

Mon ami Jacques Carron may not have cancer after all. Recent tests have revealed that he has a large but seemingly benign tumour in his abdomen. Although more definitive testing must be done before the required surgery, Jacques remains upbeat about his condition. In fact, he was so energized by this turn of events that he was out planting his garden of snow peas, onions and lettuce on the weekend. Looks like he won’t be needing my help until it’s time to plant his tomatoes.

A second bright note comes my friend John whom I wrote about several months ago in the blog entitled, A Renewed Friendship. John is back at St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre for a prosthesis following the amputation of his second leg seven months ago. When I visited, he had just finished a grueling two hour rehab session and though physically exhausted, John was happier than I’d seen him in months. Elated by his progress and the prospect of resuming daily activities on his new ‘legs’, he plans to return to St. John’s in the future as a volunteer to support others facing similar ambulatory challenges. Paying it forward...priceless.

And finally, though our dear friend Jack remains confined on an Alzheimer’s floor against his will, there is some hope that his family may soon make some concessions to alleviate his enforced confinement.

Now, if only the Blue Jays would go on a winning streak!
