LIGHT AND GLORY PASSAGES

Cher Jacques,

I have started recording in a small book snippets of uplifting passages from my casual reading, words which might help me in the future. I have labelled the book “CROSSING THE BAR”, with a deep bow to Tennyson who wrote the poem by that title.

My hope is that, as friends sit by my bedside at the crucial time which comes to all of us, they will read to me from “light and glory” passages which have inspired me along the way, and will lift my soul.

Here are a few such passages that I have collected that I’d like to share.

C.S.LEWIS:
“Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not have us mistake any of them for home”.

PSALM 2:3 :
“A thirst is my soul for the living God. When shall I go and behold the face of God?”

...and words from an Anglican hymn,
“Pleasant Are Thy Courts Above”, written by HENRY LYTE:

“ Happy souls, their praises flow, ever in this world of woe;
  Waters in the desert rise, manna feeds them from the skies;
  On they go from strength to strength
  Till they reach thy throne at length,
  At thy feet adoring fall,
  Who has led them safe through all”.

The words of this hymn were drawn from a long, deep reservoir of 70 years of old memories, and may not be exact (but, close enough to make you feel young again...).

Bye for now, ami Jacques.

Marie Jutras
