Larry Vindischman passed away yesterday at the age of 70.
Although not unexpected, the reality of his death is startling. When I spoke to him a few days ago, he seemed to be doing well.
Ironically, we didn’t talk philosophy like we usually do. I think Larry had figured out as much as he could about heaven and hell and his journey in between. Rather, we talked about how to win at black jack and his plans to cook up a batch of ribs for Super Bowl Sunday.
I regret that he passed away alone in his home. However, I take solace from the fact that he received so much support from the Brebeuf family over these past few months. On more than one occasion, he told me how much he appreciated thoughtful e-mails, especially ones from former students.
Larry, thank you for your friendship and your courage. Though we never were able to solve all the world’s problems, know that you have taught me much about my journey and my faith.
May God bless you.
