WORLD CANCER DAY

I marked World Cancer Day with a visit to my hematologist, Doctor Silverman, today.

Seems I'm doing well thanks to my regime of asparagus and daily juicing. Well, maybe that's not the reason but I am grateful that my cancer continues to be in abeyance.

The good doctor seemed frazzled as his regular secretary is off for a few months on a personal leave.

"We've gone paperless here," he explained. "In theory, it's a great practice but it's not without problems. Right now I can't find your file. It's mixed in with 600 other documents and I just can't track it down. My new secretary didn't scan in today's case load for me."

"Ah, there it is," he exclaims.

Unlike many doctors, Doctor Silverman doesn't normally let his computer get in the way of his interaction with me.

"I've been doing some jogging these days," I babble. "Up to about 5K now."

"I can't even walk 5K," the doctor replies. "Just too busy."

Again, I reflect on the dedication and heroism of doctors and front line workers in the fight against cancer.

As I returned home this afternoon, a letter from the Canadian Cancer Society was in the mail asking for a donation.

Know that I'm all in on this, World Cancer Day 2015!
