WHAT'S YOUR BRAND PART 2

Without getting on my soapbox, I would like to address the need for change in the Roman Catholic Church brand.

I'll leave the discussion about whether priests should marry or the Church's stance on contraception to the experts. And don't get me started on their policy of excommunication despite Pope Francis's open arms approach to outlier Catholics.

No, my attention has to do with the name of the brand itself, Roman Catholic, an oxymoron if there ever was one. Although catholic means universal, the term Roman conjures up images of something just the opposite, namely a time described in history books and a place that is localized to a portion of modern day Europe.

In addition, the term Roman carries with it images of empire, patriarchy, and hierarchy, all concepts that the Church unfortunately still clings to.

Enough said, the name Roman has to go as well as any construct associated with it.

Pope Francis, end the oxymoron and begin the Catholic brand.
