IN THE NEWS

"Steve Whitmire, who has voiced the iconic green amphibian since Jim Henson died in 1990, is leaving the Muppets and is being replaced by Matt Vogel, a Muppets Studio spokesperson confirmed to Deadline. No word on why Whitmire is leaving.
Whitmire has been with the Muppets since 1978, starting on The Muppet Show."

This news story caught my attention a few days ago. Although no explanation was given for Whitmire's exit, I really think he wanted to call it quits  before he actually croaked.

And here's another story from the news this week.

"Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was back at a Habitat for Humanity worksite Friday, a day after he was hospitalized for dehydration while working with the organization to build homes for needy families in Canada.
A smiling Carter showed up in blue jeans and a work shirt to the site in the St. James neighborhood of Winnipeg, where hundreds of Habitat for Humanity volunteers joined the former president and his wife, Rosalynn, to build 25 homes.
Carter, 92, was discharged earlier in the morning from St. Boniface General Hospital where he was treated "as a precaution" for dehydration, Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said."
Wow! Well done Jimmy. Still in the service of others at the age of 92.

And finally, an article in today's Toronto Star titled A Millennial's Guide to Bridge talks about the allure of the card game I enjoy so much with my avuncular buddies. In describing the game of bridge, famous investor Warren Buffett says,

"Bridge is such a sensational game that I wouldn't mind being in jail if I had three cellmates who were decent players and who were willing to keep a game going 24 hours a day."

I'm not sure if I'm that addicted but come to think of it, if I was guaranteed the bottom bunk and a few libations, I'm sure I could spent a weekend in the slammer enjoying the game with my friends.
