ALTERNATIVE MATH

Whenever someone sends me a math related news item video, I perk up my eyes and ears. This one, sent by friend and former colleague Peter Lee, is timely given the current North American climate and culture.

Hope you enjoy this clever take on the possible implications of alternate facts.

A few years ago I asked a young women, who was at the time teaching a first-year psychology class at Carlton, what her biggest challenge was in teaching the course, expecting it to be the size of the class; however, she said, "The parents".  I was shocked.  She told me that many parents had confronted her  unhappy about the marks given to their children..  I still remember one of the statements she quoted: "He can't get less than a B, because he needs to get into graduate school".  Can you imagine that!

Think of the "alternative facts" with which we are bombarded and the coddling of offspring today, and this video resonates on several levels.
