ONE RULE AT A TIME

After a summer of easy reading, I've plunged into a heavier book that has been recommended by several friends. 12 Rules of Life by Jordan B. Peterson is similar in style to the recent series of books by historian Yuval Noah Harari.

However, unlike Sapiens and other Harari books, 12 Rules of Life is coming from a place that includes a belief in God and the conviction that man is so much more than a melange of firing synapses. In fact, his philosophy (at least from the book's introduction) reminds me so much of the thinking of  C.S. Lewis.

Peterson's thesis is that "the soul of the individual eternally hungers for the heroism of genuine Being, and that the willingness to take on that responsibility is identical to the decision to live a meaningful life." Being authentic and striving to develop character in the face of suffering is at the heart of his message.

Over the next series of blog entries, I'd like to examine each of Peterson's 12 rules and make a few comments along the way.

I hope you'll join me on the journey.
