CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS PART 7 AUSTRALIA

In my last Christmas season post, I highlighted how my daughter Carolyn is creating a few new traditions for her young family this year.

Kate, a very dear and creative friend from Australia, has also shared a few of her ways of making Christmas a special celebration for her family and friends.

"Here are two of our special Christmas traditions.

The first is making a Christmas decoration. Each and every person is given a white polystyrene ball to decorate with coloured pins, sequins, beads etc. The only rule is it must have the year and the person's name or initials included in some way. Over the years some have been unbelievably beautiful and some very simple and silly. Our collection has grown over the years, as you can imagine, and now the tree is filled with these works of art. Lot's of lovely memories of people all in a Christmas bauble!

The second tradition involves making Christmas Bon Bons with the help of paper hats, bad jokes, scratchies, and so on. But the part I love the most is each bon bon has puzzle pieces. Well before Christmas, I choose a family photo with as many of us in as possible. It is usually from a Christmas past. I then have the photo enlarged and made into a jigsaw puzzle. Each person then uses their pieces to construct the photo. Each part is a different shape but all holding an equally important part of our beautiful family. This year's photo is from the last Christmas we had together before Mum and Dad passed away. I know it will bring back so many wonderful memories for everyone."
