CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

With Christmas just around the corner, I've embarked on a little project to help enkindle the spirit of renewal as we prepare to commemorate the Nativity of Jesus.

And I need your help!

I wonder if you might take a moment to share some of your Christmas traditions. In particular, those  that are unique part of your cultural background. As well, I'm looking at those little stories that help make Christmas more real for children and adults alike; and, any religious traditions that come to mind especially from your parent's or grandparent's time?

I know many people have Nativity scenes in their homes and I wonder if yours comes with a story. My friend Tom Butash shared the history of his beautiful scene in a recent email.

I know you have seen our manger set up here at our house. The figurines came from a religious articles store in Scranton. My parents as well as both sets of grandparents and my aunts and uncle’s all have the same set. When Erin and I got married in '77 we purchased ours while home for the Christmas holidays. My brothers and sisters also have the same set in their homes. Back in the 70s my dad started making stables for all of us and a few neighbors too. Every year this is the first thing we put up when we begin to decorate our house for Christmas. It’s always set up in time for the first Sunday of Advent.

Looking forward to hearing about your special traditions at mjdaoust@hotmail.com and sharing them in upcoming posts.

Let's all try to make this a Merry Christmas this year.
