THE GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS

A smile says so much about a person, and in my case, most of the credit goes to my dentist who, for the past 44 years, has always been there for me with his expertise and kindness.

When I visited Dr. Lerner yesterday after a long absence, it was like seeing an old ( Larry is 71 now) friend.

"Are you still on the job?" I teased.

"I'm down to just two days a week now which suits me perfectly," he replied. "I've got a dentist friend who's 82 now and he's still at it."

"Not sure if that's a record you want to break," I responded. "There's more to life than molars and novocaine."

He chuckled under his blue mask.

After checking my teeth, (sorry mom, two cavities) he asked,

"Do you ever miss your teaching?"

"Of course I do. But it's the kids I miss most."

"That's what I'm afraid of," Dr. Lerner replied. "I see so many great people here every day. That would be so hard to give up."

I assured him that he'd love being a "free" man but I'm not sure he bought it which I suppose is a good thing.

Heck, if he keeps at it, I've got a shot at going down as a footnote in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest serving patient of any Canadian dentist in history.

Hang in there Larry!!
