Here's a beautiful note from Pam Kapetanakis, one of our good friends from pickleball. Pam shares not only her story about growing as a child in England but also her wisdom about the most important gift of all.
As a child growing up one of five children there was not a lot of money for toys at Christmas.
However, my parents always made Christmas so very special. My Father in particular was just a big kid at heart and loved being the first parent up after us kids had tried (not always with success) to creep down the stairs on Christmas morning.
Oftentimes we tried to stay awake until my parents had come upstairs to bed, not thinking that moments after coming upstairs they wouldn't be asleep. We would then hear my Father say in a loud voice, "Father Christmas hasn't been yet, get back into bed".
There was always one "major" gift and the one that I remember being special was a doll about 2 feet tall with blond hair, which I received when I was about 7 or 8. To me, she was so beautiful and so realistic. However, the magic of Christmas was the love and warmth of being with family and how it made us feel.
As an adult, I feel very much the same. It is not the gifts one receives but the true and most important gift is being with those you love and care for. As we get older (still young at heart), gift giving is truly not important. Treasure the feelings of Peace and Love and do what we can to help (however big or small) those less fortunate than ourselves. (Mind you I have received some lovely gifts as an adult!!).
Best wishes Mike and Terry. Hope we will get to see you before Christmas.
Hugs,
Pam
