THE BEST GIFT EVER PART 19

Today's memory comes from Anne Thomson who lost her best friend and partner, Larry, last February. Despite her loss, she continues to be a source of light for so many, her strong faith a wellspring of hope and grace.

I tried to think of a Christmas gift that meant a lot to me from my childhood but my memory fails me!  However, I can think of two Christmases where something special happened – first, in 1951 my family and I spent Christmas in Canada – our first Christmas in a cold country with snow outside and real Christmas trees!  Up until then, in Antigua, we had to make do with a branch cut from a local tree, such as a casuarina, which we decorated and pretended was a Christmas tree.  And that first winter in Canada, my brothers and I got to play in the snow and have a snowball fight – something we only had ever dreamed about.

My second special Christmas was 1978 when Lisa, my daughter, was born on December 10th and we were staying with my mother as we had only just arrived in Canada from South Africa in October. We took a picture of Lisa and our Christmas turkey in its pan under the Christmas tree – Lisa and the turkey were the same size!  I don’t know where the picture is but if I ever locate it I will send it to you!

Wishing you both a very happy Christmas with your beloved family and happiness and good health in the New Year.

Blessings,

Anne
