A LUCKY MAN

Jacques considers himself a lucky man; lucky to have this precious time to put all his affairs in order, lucky to be with his family, lucky to be celebrating his birthday today, lucky to know where he is going.

He has now taken down most of the props on the stage of his life. Though he no longer has use for them, he is comforted by the knowledge that others will cherish his possessions; his precious stamp collection for his godson, his china dishes for his sister-in-law, French books for an old friend.

His car has been sold and he is even considering putting his house on the market.

Jacques seems determined to be organized, to have everyone looked after, including all thirty five of his nieces and nephews. He wants to clear the stage before the final act, to leave nothing behind…..nothing, that is, except his legacy of love and generosity.

Happy birthday, mon ami.

“Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven.
Then come, follow Me.”

Mark 10:21
