BE SWIFT TO LOVE

A former teaching colleague of mine, Larry Vindischman, is bravely fighting his own cancer battle these days. He has multiple myeloma, the second most common hematological malignancy after non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Larry was diagnosed with the disease almost two years ago. Up until then, he had been volunteering at a local hospital, playing golf and making occasional contributions to Caesars Windsor.

Always a bit of a fitness fanatic, Larry lamented with me on the phone yesterday that nurses now have trouble even finding a vein for his injections. He has been hospitalized twice in the past month with high fevers and bone wracking pain. Home again, he takes pain killers daily and although he has not lost weight, he often feels tired and listless. In fact, he shared with me that he thinks his cancer has now gained the upper hand and fears this may be his last Christmas.

The good news is that Larry just got a computer a few weeks ago. When I last spoke with him, he was still having trouble opening e-mails. Have you ever tried to help someone over the phone with computer trouble? Clearly a task for a teenager!

Larry’s e-mail address is jlv1@bell.net

For those of you who know him, would you be so kind as to drop him a line. Failing that, could you please say a prayer for him.

He is struggling and I know it would mean the world to him to hear from former colleagues and students from the Brebeuf family.

Thank you.

Celtic Prayer

Life is short and
we do not have much time to gladden
the hearts of those who travel the way with us.
So be swift to love.
Make haste to be kind and
may the blessing of God be always with you.
