Tom was at the heart of all the Riggs family celebrations. Family fest was an annual treat for everyone when he lived at the Huronia Regional Centre in Orillia. Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without Tom getting his favourite comic or video. And trips to A&W for a burger and fries were always a special guy's outing for Tommy and me.
When Tom moved to the Maple Health Centre five years ago, he became renowned for his enthusiastic hugs and passion for all things Batman.
Tom now joins in heaven his mother Iva, his dad Jimmy, his big brother Ken as well as the family dog Lucky and pet bird Pepi. What a party that will be. The root beer and hot dogs will undoubtedly be followed by buckets of corn on the cob. Hopefully his mom will lift Tommy’s two hot dog limit for the reunion.
And there will be lots of singing and running for a boy who was trapped in a body that never worked quite right. If he’d been a car, Tom would have been recalled long ago.
Athough there is some sadness for his sisters Terry and Karen, they know that he's in a much better place now because after all, he’s always been heaven safe.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more,
for the former things have passed away.
