CONTEST ANSWER

Before I reveal the answer to my summer contest, let me list some of the other articles in the same Reader’s Digest issue as the cable TV story.

Ted Williams: A Legend Returns to Baseball
The New Prince of Wales
How “Weight Watchers” Lose Weight
To the Moon: Man’s Most Daring Voyage

If you’re thinking July 1969, you’d be right.

I’d like to thank all those who tried the contest. The winner is Daniele Capozzi, an elementary school teacher and Brebeuf grad, who came closest by guessing September 1968. Well done Dan.

Guesses ranged from July 1949 (from prankster Matthew A.) to March 1983 (stick with your day job Greg G.). Kris Borg-Olivier generously offered to match my $200 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society if he’d won while Fred Gandolfi mentioned the moon landing in his deliberations.

It was wonderful touching base with so many of you, especially former students who still seem to be reading my blog.

Let me close with a joke from 1969 courtesy of Reader’s Digest.

While visiting the hospital maternity ward, I noticed a proud mother talking through the glass to her brand-new baby boy. "Look at that," she said." Only two days old, and already he's like his father. He sleeps while I talk to him."

I guess it is true…..the more things change, the more they stay the same.
