THE CONVERSE

My last blog entry on faith touched a chord with several of my readers.

One kind person wrote,

While I do agree that some have been bestowed with a greater propensity for faith than others, I don't believe that it comes easy to anyone, even your mother. It is something one must work on everyday, as you have been doing. It is something one must pray for.

I couldn't agree more. I also think that living in an affluent society may adversely impact one's faith journey.

In a book about Pope Francis by Austen Ivereigh called The Great Reformer, the Pontiff is quoted as once saying,

Here we have poor people and because they are poor they rely on faith, and because they have faith, they are our centre. Their faith, their culture, their way of expressing their faith...that what we must value.

Conversely, I'm beginning to realize that wealth can impede faith and that money bags can't pass through the eye of a needle.
