HIGHER LEARNING

After three Saturdays at the Glendon Campus of York University, I now understand why they call it higher education; it takes 139 steps to climb from campus's ravine parking lot to their second floor French classrooms.

Quite a trek, especially for someone with a gimpy leg like me.

Actually I discovered from physio this week that I've pulled a hamstring muscle. Nothing serious but enough to derail my pickleball career for the near future. On the sunny side, it has forced me to relinquish my kitchen floor washing duties for now.

My French lessons are progressing well although I'm still frustrated that I can't seem to recall the simplest of French phrases or the need for etre instead of avoir in association with certain action verbs. And reflexive verbs, now they're really annoying, n'est-ce pas!

My French presentation last week was fine according to my teacher but he much preferred another student's more spontaneous talk.

"Nous sommes ici pour parlez en francais, non pas de lire en francais," he emphasized.

Point taken.

In fact, this Saturday, I've got a joke to share with the class without using notes.  Why I'm trying this I'm not sure. I can't even tell a joke well in English.

Wish me luck....with the joke as well as with the 139 steps.

A la prochaine.
