"Just fine. Not as busy as before the outbreak but still the work goes on. It's just that I'm doing lots of things differently now, like this telephone interview with you."
Dr. Silverman is an exceptional doctor and one that I am blessed to have had in my corner monitoring my latent cancer for these past nine years.
"Can I ask you a question before I forget?" I continued.
"Of course."
"I was wondering whether you would consider me at risk when it comes to getting out post peak pandemic."
The good doctor took a moment.
"Obviously there are no studies to answer that question but for a person like yourself whose immune system has been under attack in the past, I think it best to err on the side of caution."
Looks like Terry's doing the food shopping for a while yet, I thought to myself.
After a 10 minute check up, (I'm still on the honour roll) it was time to book my next appointment.
"Can we make it a year?" I asked hopefully.
"That's fine,"Dr. Silverman replied. "But Michael, just to caution you, your cancer will likely resurface some day so call whenever you get suspicious of anything."
"Like a bump on my head?' I teased.
There was a silence. Cancer doctors can be a grim bunch!
Daily I am grateful for my health and only wish I could infuse some of it into my good friend Larry who continues to battle both bone and brain cancer. When I last spoke to him a few days ago, he was having word finding problems, a function of some of his heavy meds.
Larry and I belong to the same club and for that reason, I'm hanging in there with him step by step.
Please keep him in your prayers!
