OUR HEROES

Yesterday, a good friend dropped in (love unannounced company) and explained that he had just come from visiting a refugee family in our neighborhood that his church was helping out.

Later that day, a card playing friend shared how her mother, at age 86, still volunteers in a local high school. And then John, a friend I hadn't heard from in a long while, called and revealed that he has been helping a new Canadian with ESL.

It got me thinking that this world is so full of heroes.

Let me share a story about another Superman that I'm privileged to know.

Ryan is quadriplegic, a swimming accident permanently changing his life thirty two years ago when he was just twenty.  Last week, when I visited him at his assisted living home with his dad, he shared about his journey, his struggles, his enduring friendships and his lifelong project of raising money for spinal cord research. To date, his annual curling bonspiel has raised an astounding $670,000.

Whenever I'm tempted to cut corners or take the 'low' road, I reflect on Ryan's example of always aiming high.

Which leads me to ask, who are the heroes in your life?

We all have them.

Take a moment today to be thankful for their example and their light.

Superman and Wonder Woman are everywhere!
