Terry is after me to read a book she just finished called The End of Mental Illness by Daniel G. Amen MD. It's all about brain health and neuro-plasticity.
At the end of every chapter, the author offers numerous tips for better living. His suggestions seem to reinforce so well my New Year's resolution for 2022. Before getting to that in my next post, here's a list of some of the doctor's recommendations.
Today, I'll start a daily habit of new learning.
I'll try to stay connected to others and volunteer to avoid loneliness and isolation.
I'll start or continue music training.
When I go skiing or biking, I will put on a helmet.
I'll try to fast 12-16 hours a day.
When I must go up on the roof, I will make sure it is absolutely safe.
When I walk or drive, I will slow down and pay attention to my surroundings.
When pumping gas, I will not stand at the pump and breathe in any fumes.
When I work out, I will lift weights to boost my testosterone levels naturally.
When I want something sweet, I will choose fruit instead of sugary snacks.
When I use tech gadgets after sundown, I will make sure they have blue ray light blockers.
The list goes on and on à la Doctor Oz but the point is, one can and should make every effort to promote brain wellness.
Come to think of it, all the more reason for me to read the entire book.
Happy New Year
Everyone!
