Several months ago, our son Derek recommended we watch a series called The Chosen. Again, when we saw him at Christmas, he insisted we make time for the program.
Having now watched the first eight episodes, we well understand his insistence.
The Chosen tells the story of Jesus, from his birth to his early ministry and beyond. In all, seventeen episodes have been created with more in the works. In fact, it's the most successful crowdfunded media project ever with viewers having contributed over $40 million toward its production to date.
The story is told in such a compelling way, its underlying warmth and authenticity drawing in the viewer. Scenes with Jesus joking with friends, dancing at a wedding or making toys for a child bring his personhood to life for me and make me want to share the series with everyone I know.
In particular, the third episode in season one is a good starting place for those whose faith is of the doubting Thomas variety.
The production's wide appeal is explained by writer and creator Dallas Jenkins who states, "It's because we are focusing solely on Jesus and when you focus on Jesus all those religious walls that people have placed between them come down."
The Chosen is available as a free app at numerous sites such as www.thechosen.tv/app or search "The Chosen" in an Apple or Android app store.
I sincerely hope you can find time to watch it.
It's both a blessing and an inspiration.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
