I know many eschew the practice but I for one believe that goal setting is important especially as one gets older.
Simple goals, big goals, self-improvement goals... they're all good as they encourage one to move forward and not be content in a Lazy Boy chair.
That said, my goal for 2026 is to improve my French.
I appreciate my sister Yvonne who has worked hard at maintaining her fluency in 'la belle langue' even travelling to Quebec for an immersive experience a few years ago.
I also admire some of the people at my French Club who belong to platforms like Duolingo and Babbel. My granddaughter Isla has been learning Spanish for the past two years on one of these sites and is now able to freely converse in a new language.
One difficulty I have encountered is finding a simple French book to read that's beyond the level of Tintin or Babar.
Any suggestions?
I'm not hoping for a miracle but I know I can do better...and isn't that what a New Year's resolution is all about.
