Good morning Jacques,
Hope you had another good night's sleep. The gentle rain we had early this morning was wonderful.
It’s so good to hear that you were up having a shower yesterday and enjoying your first solid food in a long while. I love peanut butter on toast too.
The fact that your pain is manageable is a real blessing.
Last night, Ermes, Mario, Tom and I played bridge for a few hours. On one hand, Mario bid and played a slam in diamonds with Ermes. He asked for aces using the four no trump convention and learned his partnership held three of them. Next he asked for kings and when Ermes responded six spades (three kings), he was forced to call seven diamonds. Of course I doubled and we put them down one as I held the missing ace.
Mario looked embarrassed and admitted candidly,
“I forgot for a moment that there are four aces in the deck.”
I couldn’t resist the opening and chirped, “I always knew you weren’t playing with a full deck Mario.”
We all laughed and then Ermes added wistfully,
"You know, Jacques wouldn't have bid it like that. He would have used the four club way of asking for aces, the Gerber convention. That way, the contract would have landed successfully at six diamonds, not seven."
Jacques, know that we are thinking of you all the time. You're in our card games and in our quiet times, you're in our laughter and in our tears.
We all carry you in our hearts.
Enjoy this beautiful day!
Mike
