BEYOND ORDER

Jordan Peterson has a new book out called Beyond Order, a book with twelve more rules for life.

Not sure if I'm up to it but I may give it a go

I'm not surprised that Peterson has his detractors. In fact, some worry his ideas have given fuel to the radical right. When he says," do not prey to resentment," some consider he is saying that we should be tolerant of the current social order, that we should suffer without counting the cost. When he says, "set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world," still others would claim he means we should be more concerned with our own agenda than raising a flag for others.

I don't agree.

Acceptance has little to do with resignation; humility has nothing to do with weakness.

Like the Bible, I think one should take from Peterson's book what speaks to your heart.

Aiming high is a good message. Pursue what is meaningful is a strong message. Be grateful despite your suffering is an even more powerful message.

Food for the journey, that's what his books are.

If nothing else, life has taught me that the only thing that is perfectly in one's control is one's attitude. Peterson's books are all about about re-shaping your attitudes in a noble way.

I'm not sure but I think his underlying philosophy is actually taken from the Serenity Prayer below.

                       God ,grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.
