FALL IS NEAR

These first few days of September can be a time for new beginnings.

For my grandkids, it means embarking on a new school year at one of six different starting points; JK, Grade 1, Grade 6, Grade 8, Grade 10 and Grade 12.

For me, it's a return to the Holland Bloorview Rehabilitation Hospital for another year of volunteering. It has become a home away from home of sorts. I sometimes get worried I'm getting too old for the kids but five minutes into my assignment this morning, I knew I was in the right place.

I also hope to do a bit more tutoring this fall. Being around lively teens is so energizing. And, don't let people tell you that kids have it easy these days. My time tutoring young people has given me a new found respect for the academic load that many are carrying. The quadratic equation and trig ratios will never get any easier.

As well, the fall is a time of preparation for the winter ahead. All those jobs that have been on the back burner are now at the top of my to-do list... clean out that garage, Mike!

Unlike the geese who start leaving us about now, let's embrace this opportunity to be fulfilled and engaged in our relationships and in our communities.

Bring on the fall!
